Until the cash balance is swept to partner banks, the funds are held in a brokerage account and protected by SIPC insurance. Once funds are swept to a partner bank, they are no longer held in your brokerage account and are not protected by SIPC insurance. FDIC insurance is not provided until the funds participating in the sweep program leave your brokerage account and into the sweep program. FDIC insurance is applied at the customer profile level. Atrocious. Used to be such a great app, now it is useless. I logged in for the first time in a long time to check on things only to find out there's now a platform fee?! And I was NOT notified. And they've been taking it out of MY investments! I am canceling everything & closing my account. I can't even buy/sell shares from the app anymore. Hot garbage.

I've decided not to Use M1 nor anyone else should. It's a good looking app, but slow on everything. Account confirmation (myself), more than a week, put money in, more than a week?, want to get money out, more than a month? Seriously, I just read the reviews, now myself, I'm still waiting just for account confirmation with the micro transactions, no help support to be seen (considering they should have messages from me in the number of 6 or more so). E-Trade was faster, completely.

Excellent for automation and margin. Beautiful, smooth, & intuitive. In my experience of using it for 7 months, the only truly frustrating thing is the trading windows. I don't mind being limited to trading twice a day (as I am a long term investor), but the fact that you can't trade at the exact time you want keeps you from being able to properly buy on a dip or sell on a bump. You end up missing out on the biggest gains or discounts because you had to wait hours for the next window.
